Students at EDAC regularly participate in silo-busting cross-program projects to help them to not only refine their technical skills, but also develop the soft skills crucial for working on multi-disciplinary teams in industry. The greatest of these cross-program projects is our one-week-long All-School Game Jam.
On Monday morning, the students are divided into teams, each with members from all four of our programs: illustration, animation, graphic design and video game design. The teams develop their own leadership structures, scope, and workflow, and each member is accountable for their own work within the project. Their task is to create a playable video game by noon on Friday. Friday afternoon, a group of judges from industry come in to play the games, give the students feedback, and award a winner.
Our Summer 2018 Game Jam runs from August 13 to 17.
Beta-testing games is an important part of the process. And so, we are looking for a few good folks who would be interested in play testing the games on Wednesday afternoon (August 15) from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The games should be playable, but they won’t be completely polished. Part of your role as a play tester is to give the teams constructive feedback about their game so they can work on it and make it even more awesome!
If you are interested, please sign up below. We are limiting the number of play testers to 15 people. If you have any questions, you can call us at 780-429-4878 or send us an email.
